This was a very mellow time in the evening at Point Reyes Station, just as golden hour was finishing. There wasn't much activity during this time which made me scramble to try and take good photographs. I only had a few days at this location so not getting any photographs during this evening would have been frustrating for me. Since I don't take photographs during harsh sunny days, I rely on golden hour for photo sessions. I'm happy with the few photographs I did get during this evening, however, because I do feel like the mellow mood can be felt.

This is such a small hummingbird. Out of the smallest hummingbirds that I've seen, the Wire Crested Thorntail is probably the fanciest.

I never saw hummingbirds stab through flowers like they do in Ecuador. I guess most of the flowers we have in the US are not as hard to eat out of like some of their flowers.
By the way, this is a female White Bellied Woodstar which is why it may look different than some other Woodstars you may have seen on my website.

Douglas Squirrel 15

I think I've mentioned this before, but sometimes when taking action shots I don't actually know what the end results are going to look like. Take Douglas Squirrel 15 for example. In this photograph it looks like this Douglas' Squirrel is doing a super hero pose. If you don't know what that is, type in "super hero pose" into your favorite search engine. It basically looks similar to this Squirrel, as if it came in for a cool landing.
In reality, this Douglas' Squirrel was scratching itself with it's hind leg. That's what it was doing when I was taking a burst of photographs. It wasn't until I reviewed the images that I noticed this cool pose.

Forest 01
Forest 01
There's a very special place called the Arcata Community Forest. The City of Arcata, CA, owns a bit of property by Cal Poly Humboldt. Part of it includes some community buildings, a playground with a field for visitors to relax, and a Forest. I don't really care about those first two features; the Forest is where I like to visit. It includes very nice dirt paths to explore the property. Hearing the wonderful calls from the resident Varied Thrushes while enjoying the beautiful greenery is one of my favorite pastimes. You should visit here if you can.
