Unfortunately, you can barely get a glimpse of this Cotinga's red crest sitting on the back of its neck. When birds have a mohawk-type hairdo, that is often referred to as a crest. Some, like this Cotinga, tuck them away and only raise their crests for special occasions. The Red Crested Cotinga has a fairly unique crest in my opinion. It's actually most mohawk-like when it is raised, compared to other crested birds. You can see a good representation in the Merlin app or eBird if you utilize those tools like I do.

Oregon Coast Spring 2026
During Spring of 2026 I took a short trip to the Oregon Coast. It was a perfect time to visit as wild Rhododendrons were blooming, something that is celebrated in the area. The City of Florence, OR, even has a parade and carnival as a part of their annual Florence Rhododendron Festival, or as the locals call it, Rhody Days. The blooms were a pleasant surprise as I wasn't aware of this special event ahead of time. It worked out perfect because my plan was to create Nature Mood 02 during my little visit. I hope you enjoy!
