For those that care, I just got back home after two weeks of travel. Due to the Ecuador trip, short Oregon trip, and this most recent trip, I have not been home longer than I have been home. We had some personal stuff to take care of down in Southern California along with entering my photo in the Wild Mushroom Fair. We included stays at Point Reyes Station on the way down, a day trip to Palm Springs, and a short stay in Ojai, CA.

This photo is from Ojai Meadows. The area was very active with these Desert Cottontail. In this photo I was able to capture the setting Sun’s glow through the Cottontail’s ears.

I’m proud to report that Banana Slug 06 was the first place winner at the 2026 Wild Mushroom Fair presented by the Los Angeles Mycological Society. This is the second time I entered the photo competition at this fair and the second time I won first place so I am very honored that people enjoy my photographs enough to vote for them.

My main reason for entering this competition was to simply promote my work and try and get people to my website so if you came here either from picking up one of my Postcards or from social media related to the event I would like to thank you very much. While my work is mainly focused on wildlife, I do have more Mushroom photos coming so check back often ☺︎.

Right after the Sun disappeared over the horizon my wife told me where a hawk was perched. I ran over to the area but the perch was not very good for a photograph. However, I stuck around just long enough for this Red Tailed Hawk to take off and knew that if it wrapped around towards me it could make for a cool photograph due to the way the sky was still lit up in pastel coloring, just as blue hour was settling in.

This photograph was taken early one morning in Florence, Oregon. CAN loves staying in that town from time to time so I took the opportunity to walk around the small harbor during Sunrise and stumbled upon these two Hooded Mergansers. I typically don’t like to photograph animals around man made structures but it is a reminder that wildlife lives among us and we should respect that this land was theirs long before we started building on it.

As the Sun was setting over Tamales Bay, the water really soaked up all the orange tones of the sky which made for some unique photographs.

This is one of my favorite Gray Squirrel photographs. This juvenile looks like a cartoon character with its perky eyes.
