Red Whiskered Bulbul 02
I think this was the first time I had ever seen a Bulbul on the ground. The other times I had seen them they were typically hiding among the dense leaves in trees.

California Scrub Jay 02
This California Scrub Jay was checking out what the Bulbuls were doing in this bush. It didn’t seem too interested in these berries like the Bulbuls though.

Yellow Rumped Warbler 01
Yellow Rumped Warbler 01
I may have mentioned this previously, but sometimes I don’t know exactly what I am capturing when taking photos. The viewfinder is pretty small and a lot of times I am a bit far away from creatures to see exactly what is going on. When I took the shot of this Yellow Rumped Warbler, I had no idea that it was eating tiny bugs. The bugs were way too small for me to see in my viewfinder. But when reviewing my photos from the Los Angeles Arboretum on my laptop, I could finally see that the Warbler was picking off little bugs to eat when I was photographing it as it. I thought it was just hopping around the flower.

Another shot from the Los Angeles Arboretum. These Red Whiskered Bulbuls are an attraction for birders and some people visit the Arboretum specifically to see them. That’s because they are not a native species and only found around that area in California. They do have an exotic look compared to other bird species in the States.

Red Hot Poker 01
I haven’t posted a photograph of a plant or flower in quite a while so here is one with a unique name. I photographed this at the Los Angeles Arboretum so it wasn’t really wild, the way I prefer to photograph.

Allens Hummingbird 01
Allens Hummingbird 01
While at the Los Angeles Arboretum for the Wild Mushroom Fair, my wife and I took a walk around the property. There wasn’t much opportunity for wildlife photographs but I did get a few shots. This photograph of an Allen’s Hummingbird is actually one of my favorite photographs I’ve taken now. My guess is that the Hummingbird’s perch is a type of Agave plant… Aloe maybe… I don’t really know but it is very cool looking, especially with its pink tips. I also love when Hummingbirds shake around and stretch and fluff their feathers. This photograph was taken while it was shaking about which lead to a cool detailed shot with the tail feathers separated. The dark background really sets off the plant and the Hummingbird.
