River Otter 04
River Otter 04
One of my favorite River Otter photographs I have taken. The Otter was moving so some of the water was dropping off of it.

Horse 02
Horse 02
My lens was too long for these Horse because they were really close by. And I had to get back in the van to continue our trip to a spot where we would end up finding an Ecuadorian Hillstar (Hummingbird). That is why this is the best photograph I took of these particular Horses. I just couldn’t go somewhere else far enough to get a great photograph of them.
But my friend told me that she loves photographs of Horses after she saw my photograph of Horse 01. So I decided that I’ll share this photograph anyways. I don’t think it’s an excellent photograph, but I think it’s good enough to share.
If you ever wanted to search for a particular photograph or species or anything, simply use the search function on my Field Notes. Just type something in and it will recommend all the posts with whatever you typed, if valid. It’s a very useful feature.

Strong Billed Woodcreeper 02
Strong Billed Woodcreeper 02
I have a famous photograph of a Strong Billed Woodcreeper that has its mouth open as it is throwing a bug up into the air. This is not that Woodcreeper. This one is different.

Golden Naped Tanager 01
I’ve probably said this a couple of times but I want to be clear: My trip to Ecuador was with a group of bird photographers. The whole point of the group was to try and get as many good portraits of birds. Therefore, many places we spent time at were specifically bird feeding setups. This attracts birds which are often very photogenic and you simply take photos of them while they perch on the nice looking branches that people put there. I’m still not going to get into my ethics on this practice yet. Maybe one day. Or maybe not.
But, right now I just want to let you know that I always tried my best to get shots that were not on the branches that were set up by people. I tried my best to take unique photographs rather than just focusing on those perched portrait shots. I did this just as a challenge and practice for my craft. I usually try and create my own path when it comes to my life and that includes photography. But that is not to lessen that type of photography or people that enjoy taking photos at that kind of setup.
I thought that the leaves in this photograph looked very cool when I saw them in person. They are large and have a cool pattern, plus, the colors are cool. When the Golden Naped Tanager landed on the plant with those leaves, I focused my attention on it rather than the nice perches that were set up for us to photograph at. The coloring of the Tanager looked great with that plant and my photograph proves it.
