Another shot of a Varied Thrush, but this one has a different type of snack in its mouth.

I love the color orange so species that have orange coloring are particularly appealing to me. Varied Thrushes are not found in Southern California so I had few chances to see them for most of my life. But now that I live in Northern California they are a bit easier to get to since they reside in the Pacific Northwest.

I also love this particular shot I was able to get. Varied Thrushes are very shy creatures, making it challenging to get close to them. Seeing a Varied Thrush collecting nuts on the forest floor was a special moment; I had never seen one on the ground before, and I'm glad I captured this shot. A shot with a style I particularly like. Shrubbery in the foreground blurs due to my lens, leaving the Thrush in very sharp focus through the brushy window I saw it through.

For those curious about my backend work, I hit a big milestone. I've been working very hard developing the products that I want to provide. I'm happy that the development is finally done and now it's time for print. I placed an order for many prints of various photographs of mine. They are very special for many reasons and I can't wait to show you why. After using the prints for social media content, I will sell them here on my website. Yes, I will soon be much more active on social media, including TikTok. But my goal is to always drive traffic back to my website because that's where my Field Notes are. I didn’t really know what to name this shot because there really isn’t a subject matter I was focusing on. I just liked the way that the rocks and the fallen trees made a tunnel. I guess I could have named this Manzanita, as that is what is at the end of the tunnel, but I decided to name it Snow as that is what made this particular moment special. My wife and I walked a trail nearby which was covered in Snow and it was very beautiful. The particular spot in the photograph was not very covered but you can still see remnants of the Snow that blanketed the area a day or so before this shot.

I’m not sure what kind of Mushroom this is. Most are very hard to identify just by looking at it. Sometimes in order to identify mushrooms you need to taste, cut, spore print, etc. I generally just take photographs and don’t mess with those other things. I remember my wife liked this pair when she saw them.

My wife and I were walking through the trails back to our car, parked outside Ojai Meadows, when I snapped a quick series of photos as this Cottontail hopped to a spot to look for food. After shooting the photographs, I thought they might not be good or could possibly be out of focus. It was a little dark because the sun had just set. That’s why we were walking back to our car. But it turns out the photographs were not only sharp but also beautifully colored. I imagine you agree.

I think this was the first time I had ever seen a Bulbul on the ground. The other times I had seen them they were typically hiding among the dense leaves in trees.
