I feel like I've been posting a lot of Western Fence Lizards lately. Truth is, I'm not able to travel much these days, and the area where I live is quite hot during the summer. The heat makes critters really lazy and not want to come out for photo shoots. Also, a lot of birds migrate during this time to avoid the heat. There's just less activity around where I live, and I prefer to shoot in nice, soft light around dawn or dusk. This combination makes my opportunities for finding a critter and getting a good photograph very challenging. But there is no lack of Lizards and Dragonflies right now. They are out in full force.

Right after I took photos of the Pacific Chorus Frog in the last post I found this Lizard. I’ve noticed that Western Fence Lizards love to sun themselves, as depicted in this photograph. It was resting near the base of a huge tree and found a pocket of light shining through a mostly shaded area. This is the first post of a Reptile for those keeping track.

My earliest memories are of being outdoors around critters. My family had a travel trailer and we took it to campgrounds around California, which taught me something I didn't understand at the time: exploring nature is basically free. Then my siblings got older, the trips stopped, and I let it go for other things. Video games. Graphic design. Girls.
