I’m proud to report that Banana Slug 06 was the first place winner at the 2026 Wild Mushroom Fair presented by the Los Angeles Mycological Society. This is the second time I entered the photo competition at this fair and the second time I won first place so I am very honored that people enjoy my photographs enough to vote for them.
My main reason for entering this competition was to simply promote my work and try and get people to my website so if you came here either from picking up one of my Postcards or from social media related to the event I would like to thank you very much. While my work is mainly focused on wildlife, I do have more Mushroom photos coming so check back often ☺︎.

Banana Slugs are not primarily fruit eaters but apparently they do eat them on occasion. I think it was rather lucky to encounter this Banana Slug chowing down on a Blackberry.

I have to give credit to my wife as she is the one that found this Slug on a Mushroom. We definitely like Banana Slugs way more than anyone else you know. She also really loves Mushrooms so I’m glad that she likes at least one of my photos.

I found this Banana Slug while walking a trail in the forest. It was off to the side on a mossy embankment. My wife noticed that it was crawling towards a little hole and then we both noticed that a little mushroom was sticking out of the entrance to that hole. I wonder if it visits this location often.

This photograph was taken at Cannon Beach, Oregon. I loved the cluster of sea creatures and the composition with the surrounding rocks and sand. And I love how the orange Starfish pop out.

Banana Slugs are primarily found in moist forests of the Pacific Northwest including Northern California. There are actually three main species of Banana Slugs but I will call them all Banana Slugs here because I’m not an expert. I have fond memories of finding Banana Slugs as a child when on vacation in the Redwoods and I continue to enjoy encountering them today.
