There were a bunch of baby/juvenile Squirrels up in Mt. Lassen. The one in this photograph was pretty small. I like the composition of this Squirrel between a small rock and an even smaller rock. I think it thought it was blending in.

This might be my favorite photograph from my recent trip to Mt. Lassen. The photograph of the Clark's Nutcracker is very nice, but I think I like this one better. I love the pose and the plants, the ones that are in focus and the ones that are out of focus.

I love this photograph. Mostly because I like the expression on the baby Deer’s face. I feel sorry for that Deer, though. Not because it didn't want to get licked by its mother, but because it definitely has some skin issues going on; mange maybe. The other side of its body was even worse. I actually took a handful of photos of this Deer. I watched the whole family for a little while and took various shots. Most of the other photographs of this Deer are not too flattering due to its conditions.

I struggle sometimes with posting certain photographs because I think to myself, "If I were this critter, would I want this posted?" I know... it's weird. Similarly, that's why I don't post many photographs of animals killing or eating other critters, even though I've definitely captured more of those moments. I think Moths are just as cool as Dirds. I know... that's weird too. But that's why it's harder for me to post the photographs I took of a bird grabbing, killing, and eating a Moth. That's not very flattering for the Moth, just as the skin conditions on this Mule Deer are not too flattering.

I always just called these squirrels Ground Squirrels but according to iNaturalist (an app you should definitely have on your phone) the species name is Douglas' Ground Squirrel. I don't know anything about Douglas, but I do know that another Douglas' Squirrel already exists and I don't want my photograph names to confused people. California Ground Squirrel is another common name for this species so I'll go with that.
