This is a male Mallard that I found splashing around at a pond during Sunset. The Sun was just about to disappear over the horizon on the opposite side of the Mallard so it lit up the water a nice golden color.

As I was watching a covey (flock) of California Quail a bunch of them flew up into a tree but were then startled by something so they started flying in front of me towards another tree. The sun was setting in the distance so I tried my best to get a photo of one of them flying with the glow of the sun hitting them. This was the best I could achieve as there were just too many trees between them and the sun which blocked a lot of the light. Plus, it was very hard to focus on them due to the conditions and they had all flown within 15 seconds or so.

This Douglas’ Squirrel was wandering into the forest, grabbing some small pinecones, and running them over to this fallen tree and storing them. I camped near its stash in hopes of capturing this photo as it returned.

This is actually an older photo I took in 2023 and entered it into the photo contest at the 2023 Wild Mushroom Fair put on by the Los Angeles Mycological Society. This photo is included on my Sightings page in the Award Winning Photos Collection but I wanted to put it in my Field Notes as well so that people can download it if they want the wallpapers.

The photo I entered was cropped and printed vertically as to show off the reflection more and you can see that version in the Award Winning Photos Collection when you visit that page. The phone wallpaper shows off the reflection well too.
