Varied Thrush 01
Varied Thrush 01
I love the color orange so species that have orange coloring are particularly appealing to me. Varied Thrushes are not found in Southern California so I had few chances to see them for most of my life. But now that I live in Northern California they are a bit easier to get to since they reside in the Pacific Northwest.
I also love this particular shot I was able to get. Varied Thrushes are very shy creatures, making it challenging to get close to them. Seeing a Varied Thrush collecting nuts on the forest floor was a special moment; I had never seen one on the ground before, and I'm glad I captured this shot. A shot with a style I particularly like. Shrubbery in the foreground blurs due to my lens, leaving the Thrush in very sharp focus through the brushy window I saw it through.
For those curious about my backend work, I hit a big milestone. I've been working very hard developing the products that I want to provide. I'm happy that the development is finally done and now it's time for print. I placed an order for many prints of various photographs of mine. They are very special for many reasons and I can't wait to show you why. After using the prints for social media content, I will sell them here on my website. Yes, I will soon be much more active on social media, including TikTok. But my goal is to always drive traffic back to my website because that's where my Field Notes are. And Field Notes is the best way to engage with BAM Originals and me.
I'm hoping to relaunch my new website, which includes the new purchasable products, in two to four weeks. If you want to be notified when it goes live, sign up for my newsletter below.

I think this was the first time I had ever seen a Bulbul on the ground. The other times I had seen them they were typically hiding among the dense leaves in trees.

This California Scrub Jay was checking out what the Bulbuls were doing in this bush. It didn’t seem too interested in these berries like the Bulbuls though.

Yellow Rumped Warbler 01
Yellow Rumped Warbler 01
I may have mentioned this previously, but sometimes I don’t know exactly what I am capturing when taking photos. The viewfinder is pretty small and a lot of times I am a bit far away from creatures to see exactly what is going on. When I took the shot of this Yellow Rumped Warbler, I had no idea that it was eating tiny bugs. The bugs were way too small for me to see in my viewfinder. But when reviewing my photos from the Los Angeles Arboretum on my laptop, I could finally see that the Warbler was picking off little bugs to eat when I was photographing it as it. I thought it was just hopping around the flower.

Another shot from the Los Angeles Arboretum. These Red Whiskered Bulbuls are an attraction for birders and some people visit the Arboretum specifically to see them. That’s because they are not a native species and only found around that area in California. They do have an exotic look compared to other bird species in the States.

Allens Hummingbird 01
Allens Hummingbird 01
While at the Los Angeles Arboretum for the Wild Mushroom Fair, my wife and I took a walk around the property. There wasn’t much opportunity for wildlife photographs but I did get a few shots. This photograph of an Allen’s Hummingbird is actually one of my favorite photographs I’ve taken now. My guess is that the Hummingbird’s perch is a type of Agave plant… Aloe maybe… I don’t really know but it is very cool looking, especially with its pink tips. I also love when Hummingbirds shake around and stretch and fluff their feathers. This photograph was taken while it was shaking about which lead to a cool detailed shot with the tail feathers separated. The dark background really sets off the plant and the Hummingbird.
