California Quail 10
California Quail 10
I had a lot of joy watching this female California Quail and her young. Unfortunately for you I did not get many pictures of them. One reason why is because it was getting late. The Sun had already set at this point and the Quail were only out for a little bit before finding shelter. The other reason is because I’m very cautious to not interrupt wildlife, especially when it comes to babies or juveniles. I generally keep a pretty good distance and I knew the photos were not going to be that great from where I was viewing.
The Quail happen to move up this little hill and were covered by some tall grass so that is when I decided to make my move and sneak a bit closer. In this photo they are running back down the little hill after something else spooked them. There is a track not too far from here where people walk and ride bikes around so the Quail would attempt to go a little higher but always end up running back down after getting startled. I only got a handful of photos before they made home in a bush and decided to not come back out.

The Sun had basically just gone down and I was walking back to my car when I heard some California Quail so I decided to investigate. I saw this female looking rather stoic and was able to snap some photos of it.

Osprey 02
Osprey 02
This Osprey was perched high up on a tree just off of a trail I was on that followed along the edge of a lake. I watched it for a while and waited for it to take off. It’s very hard waiting for a bird to leave its perch because sometimes it can be quite a while. As time ticks on I start thinking to myself that I could be missing some other action or missing good light while just standing around.
But luckily the Osprey did take off while I was waiting. It swooped straight down and then broke to the left behind a bunch of trees so I had to run to the other side to see where it went. It was on the far side of the lake but then started to make a U-turn. It was flying eye level to me and slowly made its way back my direction so I snapped bunch of pictures as it flew by, just before disappearing behind the trees again. I think this is a pretty unique shot of an Osprey.
