Roosevelt Elk 01

Roosevelt Elk standing alert in a field of tall green grass

Sorry I haven’t been posting my Field Notes as much. That’s because I haven’t been out in the field much. However, I did make a very quick trip to the central coast of Oregon. I’ll be sharing more from that visit, including a brand new Nature Mood video but for right now you only get this Roosevelt Elk. You can actually very easily see this Elk and its herd. They are right off the highway near Reedsport, OR. It’s called the Dean Creek Elk Viewing Area. It’s just an open field and sometimes the Elk are out grazing.

This area doesn’t make for great photographs because it’s just a field, but the weather helped me a little. It was partly cloudy that day which was better than full Sun. Sunny weather makes for harsh lighting conditions so photographs don’t look as nice. But every now and then the Sun would get covered up so I could shoot a little. Another lucky aspect was that the wind was blowing. I’ll be the first to admit that this isn’t the most exciting photograph, but the wind blowing does make it a whole lot more interesting than if everything was still. There is juxtaposition between the stillness of the Elk and the chaotic environment.

This is going to be my last post for a while. Well, hopefully not too much longer. I’m very excited for the future. My younger self would love the website that is coming. I can’t imagine he’s the only one..
